PERIODONTAL CARE

Posted on : 27 Oct, 2015

Periodontal treatment involves eliminating infection around the teeth and correcting the gums. Early treatment of these conditions, are critical as periodontal disease can easily lead to significant problems such as loss of teeth and gum infections. Periodontal disease has also been tied to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and low birth-weight in premature babies, along with causing even more trouble for diabetics.

Periodontal therapy can also improve your smile through recent advances in soft tissue surgery and gum reshaping. The following are some procedures performed at our center.

Treatment of Gum Recession & Thinning:

Recession of the gums is when the tissue around the tooth reduces, where as gum thinning is when the tissue around the tooth is thinned. These can result in root sensitivity to hot and cold foods, as well as an unattractive appearance of the gums and teeth.

To solve these problems, a thin piece of tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth and placed around the tooth by a procedure called gingival grafting. This tissue provides a stable and healthy band around the tooth increasing the tooths longevity.

Cosmetic Crown Lengthening:

Excessive gum display during smiling can be improved with periodontal therapy. Tissue is removed to provide a more pleasing and attractive smile.

 De Pigmentation:

Black smile is also considered by some individuals as an unattractive smile. This is due to excess melanin pigmentation. Removing this pigmentation can be done through a surgical procedure or by Laser technology.
